Hudson’s commitment to protecting the environment is evident on many fronts. Our goal is to reduce our carbon footprint through various forms of material recycling, chemical and ink usage, supply sourcing, etc. This is all accomplished without compromising the quality of the printed material that we produce. More specifically:
WE ARE FSC CERTIFIED
After an extensive on-site audit of our manufacturing practices and examination of our facility by the Forest Stewardship Council, Hudson Printing earned its FSC certification in August, 2008. FSC certification establishes a chain-of-custody to certify that paper and other wood products come from forests adhering to strict environmental and socioeconomic standards. The three FSC labels that can be added to appropriate projects are: FSC 100%; FSC Recycled; and, FSC Mixed Sources. Contact us to learn more about the possibility of adding the FSC label to your next project.
WE USE VEGETABLE-BASED INKS 99.5% OF THE TIME
Printing with soybean, vegetable-based inks create rich, vivid color while simultaneously drastically reducing VOC’s (volatile organic compounds). Soy inks create less waste as they remain more stable throughout the printing process. They provide better press “mileage” than petroleum-based inks; and, they facilitate de-inking during post-consumer waste paper recycling. Unless we are printing a metallic ink or some other special ink formulation, we will be more than happy to include this label on your future projects.
PREPRESS DEPARTMENT INITATIVES
By implementing a computer-to-plate workflow, we have eliminated the intermediate step of film (negative) production and its ultimate disposal. This is accomplished in conjunction with a chemical-free, water-based printing plate production system. All aluminum plates are recycled after use, as well.
PRESSROOM CHEMISTRY
Hudson has adopted a policy of purchasing only environmentally-friendly pressroom chemistry. Our press blanket and roller washes, fountain solutions, plate cleaners and other pressroom chemicals are all water-based and/or extremely low VOC products.
PAPER, BOARD AND WOOD RECYCLING
Waste management is always practiced; with excess paper, corrugated board and wood products (such as pallets), recycled on a daily basis.
